Featured Filmmaker Nadine L’Esperance - WiHM
Women In Horror Month 2016
We’re asking our favorite Horror Icons three specific questions:
Why Film? What’s been their favorite project to-date? And what we’ll be looking forward to next…
- Nadine L’Esperance
First up is filmmaker Nadine L’Esperance.
Fresh off the festival circuit with her latest (and multi-award winning) short No Pets Allowed, we’re honored she was able to chisel out a moment from her current production schedule to chat with us!

SB: Why film?
NE: I was an extra in film and television for many years. I’ve always enjoyed being on set. I knew I wanted to be a part of film production, but I didn’t know in which area. I got my makeup diploma, and did a lot of photography. It was when a local film house had a short film contest I knew I enjoyed writing and directing, something I never thought of doing in the very beginning. I find it’s a wonderful form of getting a story out of your head and sharing it. Besides I’ve been a horror fan since I was a little kid.

SB: Your favorite project to-date?
NE: My favorite project is No Pets Allowed. If you watch my shorts in order, you can see the difference where I have being learning about filmmaking, and No Pets has been my best one yet. I had the opportunity to work with great people, and have access to wonderful sets. It was also the first time I was able to hire someone to do makeup instead of doing it myself.

SB: What’s next on the horizon?
NE: I have a micro short that will be finished within the next few weeks. It’s different again like all my films are. I have another short in the works, and should be tackling a feature in the near future.

Star of one of our most popular TV soaps, Emmerdale, Dominic Brunt is known in every household here in the UK. On top of this, he's also forging quite a reputation as one of the best indie horror filmmakers in Britain - his directorial debut feature, Before Dawn, was very well received upon its release in 2013 and more recently his second feature, Bait, has accumulated plenty of critical acclaim worldwide.
