Barbie Wilde - WiHM
Women In Horror Month 2016
We’re asking our favorite Horror Icons three specific questions:
Why Film? What’s been their favorite project to-date? And what we’ll be looking forward to next…
- Barbie Wilde
Whichever way you slice it, Barbie Wilde is a horror icon. Best known for playing the Female Cenobite in Clive Barker’s cult British classic, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, she’s now rapidly carving out a reputation as a remarkable author of dark fiction - The Venus Complex and Voices Of The Damned being greatly received by fans and critics alike.
Shortly after The Slaughtered Bird’s conception in 2013, we were lucky enough to become friends with Barbie and can confirm meeting her in person is as impressive as the reputation that precedes her.
We managed to grab a few moments with the lovely lady for our Women In Horror Month feature…
SB: Why film?
BW: I’m a huge movie fan, whatever the genre. Film is a multi-faceted industry that encompasses many disciplines and arts. When I was an actress, my job was to interpret the words of the screenplay writer and the vision of the director, as well as putting my own stamp on the character. Now, as a writer, I’m creating worlds and mythologies of my own, which I hope to eventually turn into movies. I think the best way to describe how I feel is this quote from Robert Altman: “Filmmaking is a chance to live many lifetimes.”
“Filmmaking is a chance to live many lifetimes.”
SB: Your favorite project to-date?
BW: It’s too difficult to pick just one! I loved playing the Female Cenobite in Hellbound: Hellraiser II. After all, it’s not every day that you’re cast as a powerful demon from hell. I’m very proud of my debut novel, The Venus Complex, which explores the inner mindscape and sexual fantasies of a serial killer from the male POV. And finally, I’m busy promoting my critically acclaimed short horror story collection, Voices of the Damned. Every story is accompanied by one artwork or illustration by top artists in the genre, such as Clive Barker, Nick Percival, Daniele Serra, Vincent Sammy, Ben Baldwin, Tara Bush, Steve McGinnis and Eric Gross. It’s a truly sexy cocktail of art and horror!

SB: What’s next on the horizon?
BW: I’m working on expanding one of my short horror stories, “Valeska”, into a novel about a new species of vampire. In the meantime, I’m finishing off my first screenplay, Zulu Zombies, which also based on my short horror story from Voices of the Damned.

Star of one of our most popular TV soaps, Emmerdale, Dominic Brunt is known in every household here in the UK. On top of this, he's also forging quite a reputation as one of the best indie horror filmmakers in Britain - his directorial debut feature, Before Dawn, was very well received upon its release in 2013 and more recently his second feature, Bait, has accumulated plenty of critical acclaim worldwide.
