Cathedrals will fall, the river will run red... and THE BIRD will be SLAUGHTERED!

REVIEW: The Chair (Movie)

- By “Scratchy” Pete Ellott

“…In Warden we trust…”

Wow, I think the Kickstarter campaign began sometime early 2014 for this one…with a $40K goal that was reached then a post-production campaign if I recall correctly, that finally gave supporters a chance to view it before a physical copy is released.

Within the last few weeks.

From Director Chad Ferrin.

Polished look to teasers and trailers with the renowned Bill Oberst Jr (a personal favourite) taking on the lead sinister role.

The wait has been worth it.

He stands.

Like a foreboding wartime surgeon.

Chrome goggles. Chains. Blood. Body parts. Tools.

Hints of jail as you reminisce life…

Now on death row.

“Screams from beyond that door…like nothing I’ve ever heard.”

Insanity and torment.

As another is sent to The Warden.

Scarred. Gloved. Dismembered.

“I’m afraid there’s been an accident.”

As classics play and all is superficially calm.

On the surface.

“We know what you did.”

Becomes a haunting mantra of the innocent?

The past relived in flashes and nightmares.

Impaled revenge is beaten down…

Harshly.

Evil.

“You’ve been a naughty boy.”

And as excitement builds…enough for one day…

To torment even further.

Further punishing the punished.

Childhood violence can be a never ending circle…

Of hallucination?

Or blood pact?

Whoring Father. Dominating Mother.

Sin after sin.

Discovered and explained…

As death row time ticks down…

To the last hours and minutes.

Preparation for the final ride…

And one hell of a journey.

That never lets go.

“You failed to save me from what I am.”

At 90 odd minutes in length this is a dark, dirty and grim tale of contrasts and intrigue. With some great performances from the leads including the late (Rowdy) Roddy Piper. Bill Oberst Jr nails opposites superbly. He always plays a very sinister bad boy role.

The sets are in the main equally as dark. Those Prison shots are just delicious and set the tone so very well, along with the daunting soundtrack that accompanies the viewing…

Along with some great gore effects that cut to the very bone.

Dragging you further down in a feeling of despair.

As I said…

Well worth the wait.
