PREVIEW: Rings
Paramount Pictures have revealed that they will be releasing the third instalment of the Ring franchise in early 2017. Rings will be another American reboot of the classic Japanese chiller and it will once again focus upon a cursed video tape.
Despite there being plenty of reservations around the internet as to whether any Ring sequels make any sense, in the era when teen TV shows and even online slots games get in on the horror trend, it kind of makes sense to revisit this iconic horror hit.
The action follows on from the previous two Ring films and focuses on a typically good-looking group of American teens who are exposed to mysterious video tape that gives them just seven days to live.
Lead actors include the likes of newcomers Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe who unwittingly find themselves in supernatural peril by discovering that there’s a movie within the movie that causes a huge amount of ghoulish horror.
With the likes of Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki and Vampire Diaries’ Zach Roerig starring in Rings, it may not seem like it will be the most heavy-hitting release of the horror franchise.
But seeing as hotly-tipped director F. Javier Gutiérrez has taken time out of the remake of The Crow, to get involved in Rings, it could help add a touch of quality to the franchise.
Many horror movie buffs were surprised that Hollywood would attempt to remake the fiercely original and terrifying Japanese 1998 movie.
Whether 2017’s version of The Ring can successfully update the franchise remains to be seen. The trailer for Rings shows that the filmmakers have spared no expense in upping the drama whilst staying true to the central themes of the series.
Paramount Pictures have also carefully avoided trying to compete with the season’s other big horror titles like Ouija: Origin of Evil by delaying the release until 2017.
And with plenty of other chilling releases in 2017 like Annabelle 2 and The Dark Tower and yet more spooky online slots games, it looks like next year will be a great year for horror fans.
2 of Britain’s leading horror websites, UK Horror Scene and The Slaughtered Bird, have teamed up to bring the UK a new horror film festival in May 2017.
TripleSix will be a 2-day horror film festival in Manchester over the Bank Holiday weekend 27th & 28th of May 2017. Not only that, but TripleSix have partnered with AMC cinema in Manchester to bring the best in comfort, state-of-the-art facilities and professionalism.
Star of one of our most popular TV soaps, Emmerdale, Dominic Brunt is known in every household here in the UK. On top of this, he's also forging quite a reputation as one of the best indie horror filmmakers in Britain - his directorial debut feature, Before Dawn, was very well received upon its release in 2013 and more recently his second feature, Bait, has accumulated plenty of critical acclaim worldwide.
