We love helping crowdfund campaigns here at The Slaughtered Bird. I think we’ve featured projects from every corner of the globe by now, but there hasn’t been one from our home city…. until today.

THE SPAWNING is a new horror vision from Simon Riley and Liverpool’s very own Portia Victoria, set to film in nearby Chester, and it looks a BEAST - but it needs your help.
Brief, wacky synopsis, anyone?:
“A creature from another world imprisons a woman inside her house and breeds with her for food. It’s Alien meets Misery, but darker and more sinister than either!”
Yep, I’m in!
Under their production company umbrella of DarkHeart Films, director Simon and actress/model Portia have launched an Indiegogo campaign for help with location costs, transport, post production services (including editing and colour grading), musical compositions, make-up, costumes and practical effects, and offer some excellent perks for all you sexy contributors!

Speaking briefly with Portia last night, she couldn’t hide how passionate everybody involved with THE SPAWNING is - none more so than its talented lead, Alex Walton - and listing The Shining, The Fly, Hellraiser, Nightbreed, Cannibal Holocaust, The Thing and Tenebrae as some of their other influences definitely gets my dark cogs turning, too!
With The Bird HQ only down the road from the gang, I’ll try my damnedest to keep you fine folk up to speed as I regularly attempt to gatecrash proceedings! 😉 In the meantime, check out the film’s IMDb page HERE and a recent article our local newspaper The Liverpool Echo produced about the pending feature.
