Manchester filmmakers ensure crowdfunding success by using their BRAAAINS!

Filmmakers Mat Johns and Chris Lane have successfully managed to raise more than £2000 via crowdfunding to finance the production of their new zombie short, A FATHER’S DAY.
The pair launched a campaign on Crowdfunder last week, and in little more than four days had reached their initial target. The entrepreneurial filmmakers are now welcoming additional donations to enable them to send the finished film to some of the top film festivals around the world.
Mat, director of A FATHER’S DAY, said, “The response to our campaign has been overwhelming and taken us completely by surprise. Chris and I really put a lot of thought into the rewards that we offered in return for donations and, luckily, it seems to have paid off, with certain rewards like a personalised zombie sketch proving to be very popular.”
Festival submissions are expensive, and there’s no guarantee of being accepted. However, they are a fantastic way for filmmakers to raise their profile.
The film’s producer, Chris, explains, “We have a slate of feature films in various stages of development and screening shorts at festivals is a great networking opportunity. Having a film seen and accepted at some of the bigger film festivals can also open doors and become an invaluable asset with which to approach investors in relation to bigger projects in the future.”
Having already secured the services of legendary special effects makeup artist Shaune Harrison (Harry Potter, World War Z, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron) plus the backing of Creative England’s iShorts, a BFI initiative, it looks like this film is going to be ‘dead’ cert.
Chris adds, “Creative England’s grant of £5000 and the £2000 raised via Crowdfunder will help to ensure that the film looks fantastic on screen. However, £7000 was the minimum that we needed to make the film, and there are still match funding opportunities available should anyone be interested in coming onboard as Executive Producer .”
