Rock In Purgatory - the ultimate heavy metal horror comic!
Published throughout 2017 in Popcorn Horror magazine, Rock In Purgatory is a horror comedy comic strip which showcases the outrageous deaths of hapless rockstars. Mixing classic, newsprint style comic strips and EC Comics horror with a tongue-in-cheek, ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’ storytelling, this 48 page collection brings all strips and art together for the first time. If you love your music loud and your comics brutal, then you’re in for a treat, as Rock In Purgatory turns it up to eleven!
All strips from the Popcorn Horror run will be available in print for the first time. Alongside them will be never before published strips that make up this series. These include a number of two and four page strips, as well as more of the one-pagers that fans will be familiar with.
Presented as a parody music magazine, it will also include lots of other heavy metal, horror and comedy content. Readers will find a poster pull-out section, articles about the bands that inspired the stories and a look at how the comic was created, with concept art and character designs.
The Kickstarter campaign runs throughout February. Backers can pick up digital or print copies of the 48 page full colour collection. Art rewards, such as a selection of prints, original art from the comic and one-of-a-kind commissions, are available to backers. But it is the heavy metal themed rewards that really set this campaign apart. Pick from a choice of exclusive branded plectrums, souvenir gig tickets and backstage passes, or even opt for the Rock In Purgatory tour shirt.
We don’t like to blow our own trumpets here at The Slaughtered Bird but, y’know, FUCK IT – we’re damn proud of our debut film production, BURN, created in collaboration with Dragon Egg Media!
Since post-production finished last year, our 15-minute short has received numerous excellent reviews, been busy finding its feet on the festival circuit and gratefully receiving many Official Selection laurels from around the world, and now it’s picked up its first award… or three!
It’s not every day you get to speak to the lead actor in possibly your favourite horror film of all time. Especially on a Tuesday. Tuesdays are usually rubbish!
David Naughton should need no introduction to horror fans. Back in 1981, An American Werewolf In London had unprepared cinema goers laughing heartily one second and jumping out of their seats in terror the next. Its tale of two young American tourists coming face-to-teeth with a legendary lycanthropic beast perfectly married a genuinely funny script with razor sharp editing, groundbreaking special effects and a flawless cast to create a monster movie that is still many people’s benchmark today
