Cathedrals will fall, the river will run red... and THE BIRD will be SLAUGHTERED!

Tea Leaves

A message from filmmaker Louise Keay Bell:

We previously ran a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for Tea Leaves: http://theslaughteredbird.com/kickstarter-launched-tea-leaves-short-animated-horrorcomedy-film/

Despite gaining a lot of fans, with features in news articles, numerous blogs and even a donation from Marilyn Manson, we were just short of hitting our target and didn’t receive the money as this was an all or nothing campaign. We decided to re-launch on Indiegogo as this platform allows greater flexibility for funding. Many fellow artists, filmmakers and musicians have reached out offering assistance, and we have found ways of cutting down the budget. I am currently paying for all expenses out of my own pocket, which is a bit of a financial strain. This project will allow me to startup my directing career and to continue what I love doing; making films.

At present, we are completely relying on this campaign to fund this project as a result of being unable to receive support from the Scottish film industry. It is extremely difficult in the current financial climate to pursue a career in the creative industries, and it is a struggle faced by many graduates. Myself and my team have worked hard to develop Tea Leaves further, and we hope to make something that is edgy and out of the box. We hope that you can support us to bring this film to life, and so we can continue to pursue our career ambitions.

Tea Leaves tells the story of three supernatural spirits; a Wendigo demon, a Banshee and a cat ghost who are summoned at a ouija board seance by a group of self assured ghost hunters in an old abandoned mansion, with disastrous and comical consequences. Chaos quickly ensues before the spirits come to a resolution.

Ouija boards are often used as a tool for contacting the dead or something more sinister… Unseen spirits are summoned for questioning, using only the planchette to guide the users to the answers. But do these spirits view the whole thing as an inconvenience, or are they keen to use it for their own advantage? What if they aren’t human? What if the spirit is a silly cat, randomly hitting the planchette around the board?

Tea Leaves is a short horror comedy film that combines animation with live action. We need your help to bring this strange and spooky film to life and create something that’s unique, bizarre and as amusing as it is unsettling. I’m an animation graduate hoping to launch my career as a director. Myself and my team are truly passionate about this project and we hope you can help us achieve our goals of shaking up the film industry in Scotland.

INTERVIEW: David Naughton
untitled It’s not every day you get to speak to the lead actor in possibly your favourite horror film of all time. Especially on a Tuesday. Tuesdays are usually rubbish! David Naughton should need no introduction to horror fans. Back in 1981, An American Werewolf In London had unprepared cinema goers laughing heartily one second and jumping out of their seats in terror the next. Its tale of two young American tourists coming face-to-teeth with a legendary lycanthropic beast perfectly married a genuinely funny script with razor sharp editing, groundbreaking special effects and a flawless cast to create a monster movie that is still many people’s benchmark today Read on...
